Taipei mayor talks urban renewal, exhibitions in Spanish city
Taipei, March 9 (CNA)
During a meeting with Girona Mayor Carles Puigdemont, Hau said Taipei could share its experience in organizing large-scale events such as the six-month long Taipei International Flora Exposition, which ended in April 2011.
Accompanied by Taiwan's representative to Spain Javier Hou, Hau also expressed his willingness to help promote in Taiwan Spanish delicacies and the Temps de Flors Festival in Girona, a city in northeast Spain not far from the French border.
Puigdemont responded with a plan that would allow chefs from Taiwan to exchange culinary skills at the city's biennial Girona Gastronomic Forum, which provides an exchange platform for professionals.
Hau welcomed the idea, noting that Taipei is planning to apply to be recognized as a City of Gastronomy on UNESCO's list of intangible world heritages.
Hau is in Europe to exchange experiences in organizing large-scale events, ahead of Taipei's bid to be designated World Design Capital for 2016 and to ensure the success of the 2017 Universiade, according to the Taipei city government.
He has already visited London and will next travel to Hamburg before wrapping up his visit on March 13 and returning to Taiwan on March 15.
