Sun Moon Lake makes CNN's top 10 cycling routes

Beautiful scenery, aboriginal culture and diverse ecology are the reasons behind Sun Moon Lake's inclusion as one of the world's 10 best cycling routes chosen by CNN's travel website, the regional headquarters said Monday.

The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration in Nantou County, central Taiwan said it has been dedicated to promoting green tourism over the past few years and has built multiple cycle paths around the lake, including a 400-meter route above the water.

It said cycling on these routes is the best choice for tourists who want to slowly tour the area and enjoy the beautiful landscape.

In the article titled "Cycling Routes That'll Take Your Breath Away" on CNNGo.com, the area around Sun Moon Lake was ranked No. 5 behind the Great Ocean Road in Australia, the Udaipur City tour in India, the Karakoram Highway between China and Pakistan, and the Route of the Hiawatha in the United States.

The article said that Sun Moon Lake "has long been charming curious foreigners and local visitors alike."

"Its calm, turquoise water has also inspired many ancient Chinese poets and painters," it said.

The other five routes that made the list were the Route des Grand Crus in France, New Zealand's Molesworth Road, the P'tit Train du Nord Linear Park in Canada, the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route on Canada-U.S. border, and the Cycle Route 10 in Dutch capital of Amsterdam.
