Director General Jacqueline H. Liu Visits With Colorado Secretary of State and Attorney General, and Attends the 12th Anniversary Banquet of the Chinese Americans Council of Colorado

Director General Jacqueline Liu called on Secretary Bernie Buescher and Attorney General John Suthers on November 13th afternoon, briefing them on recent social-economic development in Taiwan and the cross-strait relationship. Director General Liu explained that the fourth direct dialogue between the two sides since last November will take place soon. The signing of the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) will be discussed. Both Secretary Buescher and Attorney General Sithers praised on the positive development of the cross-strait relations and agreed on the importance of the partnership between Colorado and Taiwan.

On November 13th evening Director General Liu hosted a dinner for members of the Double Tenth Celebration Committee of Colorado and leaders of the other organizations to appreciate their efforts in hosting the Cultural Goodwill Mission of the Republic of Chia's visit in Denver last September 25th. In her remarks, Director General Liu emphasized that although the National Day celebration was cancelled this year due to the catastrophy brought about by Typhoon Morakot last August in Taiwan, overseas compatriots in Denver put lots of efforts in hosting the Goodwill Misson and facilitating a very successful concert. After the dinner, compatriots elected Ms. Lilly Shen as the new chair of the Double Tenth Celebration Committee of Colorado.

Then on November 14th Director General Liu was invited by Chinese Americans Council of Colorado (CACC) to attend its 12th Anniversary Banquet in the evening. She was seated at the same table with Ms. Jennie Ritter, the First Lady of Colorado and Ms. Susan Daggett, wife of Senator Michael Bennett. She praised compatriots in Denver in her speech for their enthusiasm in serving the communities and promoting cultural exchange. She stressed that their contributions in helping to make Colorado a good place for doing business and raising children should be recognized. Ms. Jennie Ritter and Ms. Susan Daggette also paid their respects to members of the CACC for what they have done to help the communities through the years. Mrs. Nai-Li Yee was awarded Life Time Community Service Award at the banquet.
