Daydreamer+ A Tap Dance feast for the Senses
Traveling all the way from Taiwan’s distant shores, the Dance Works troupe will debut its one-of-a-kind East-meets-West tap dance performance for New York audiences at the Kumble Theater (LIU) from July 12th to July 15th. Combining tap dance with world music and technology media, Dance Works is sure to charm New Yorkers with this new fusion of exotic tap dance music concert.
Known as a tap dance group, Dance Works adheres to tap’s spirit of creative rhythm, with the fusion of oriental elements and traditional Chinese performance. The team has continued creating, performing, and raising the standard of tap dance in Taiwan in its 12-year history. Dance Works has already made international appearances in the U.S., Great Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Macau, and received tremendous response in everywhere. Dance Works also launched an annual “Taipei Tap Festival” in 2005, inviting famous tap teachers like Derick K. Grant, Jason Samuels Smith, Chloe’ Arnold, and Yukiko Smilie, to assimilate and turn Taiwan into a new hub for Asia’s tap culture.
This June, Dance Works is proud to unleash , a classic performance resulting from a collaboration with world percussion musician Alex Wu that took over two years to complete. Daydreamer+ will give audiences a new kind of concert experience, combining the rhythm of tap with live musical performance featuring soft instruments from Chinese and around the world, to create an abundant cross-cultural atmosphere. With the rich musical nature in this dance, the tap rhythm turns into a musical art. Dance Works has recently been recording the music EP, and once completed will be the group’s first tap album.
