Director General Jack J.C. Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Kansas City attends a lunch meeting hosted by Dr. Jeff Weinberg and Dr. Susan Gronbeck-Tedesco of the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas.
Under the invitation extended by Dr. Jeff Weinberg, Assistant to the Chancellor and Dr. Susan Gronbeck-Tedesco, Associate Vice Provost for International Programs of
Director General Yang congratulated the Kansas University Jayhawk Mens Basketball team for their successful season and NCAA 2nd place. He also introduced Taiwan’s top athletes, golfer, Miss Yani Tseng, she won 5 LPGA major championships and is currently ranked the world No. 1 female golfer and player of the year for 2010, 2011 and 2012. Mr. Chien-Ming Wang is a Taiwanese Major League Ace Pitcher. He played for the New York Yankees for 2006 and 2007 seasons. He is now signed with the Washington Nationals. Dr. Weinberg admired the soft power demonstrated by the Taiwanese athletes.
Director General Yang commented that TECO office has a jurisdiction of six states including Kansas. He also expressed his appreciation for the care of the Taiwan students. Dr. Gronbeck-Tedesco as the head of the International Department she welcomes all international students to study at KU. The current KU International Student Attendance shows that there are about 900 students from Mainland China, India 163, Republic of Korea 162, Saudi Arabia 162, Japan 69 and Taiwan 59. Dr. Weinberg welcomes more students from Taiwan to study at KU.
