•Publication Date：05/04/2012
•Source： Taiwan Today
•By Kwangyin Liu
Two multimedia art installations created by Taiwan’s National Palace Museum have been honored with gold at the 23rd MUSE Awards in Minneapolis.
Among 40 fellow winners, including New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Chicago’s Field Museum, the NPM was the only institution to bag two gold awards, the museum noted in a news release May 3.
“Beyond Landscape,” the gold winner under interpretive interactive installations, recreates a mountainous landscape on a 40-meter-long canvas with animation, collage, music and interactive theater techniques.
Part of a large exhibition last June, the work drew inspiration from “Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains” by Huang Gongwang, a famous painter from the Yuan dynasty (1271-1368), NPM sources said.
Another gold winner, “Along the River, During the Ching-ming Festival,” won out in multimedia installations with its vivid animated version of a well-known panoramic painting by Song dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan.
Now in their 23rd year, the MUSE Awards recognize achievement in museum media around the world. The event is organized by the American Association of Museums.
The awards were presented during an April 29 reception at the 2012 AAM Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, organizers said.
Judged by over 130 museum professionals around the world, the competition honors projects in 14 categories, including interactive kiosks, video, film and computer animation and public outreach programs, according to the AAM.
