The Taiwan Philharmonic, the oldest symphony orchestra of Taiwan, will perform at Bozar in Brussels as part of the Klarafestival in mid-March. They plan to bring a varied program with music from the East and West. Dvořák’s famous Symphony No.9 ‘From the New World’ will sound familiar to most people, while Symphony No.3 of contemporary Taiwanese composer Gordon Chin, much influenced by György Ligeti, will hopefully be a pleasant discovery. The Taiwanese-Australian violinist Ray Chen, winner of the 2009 Queen Elisabeth Competition, will interpret Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2, which shares the same lyricism and fervour as his ballet Romeo and Juliet, composed during the same period.
