The Overseas Compatriot Community of Boston Held a Flag Raising Ceremony and Parade marking the Centennial Celebration of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Boston City Hall Plaza

On Oct. 9, the Overseas Compatriot Community of Boston Held a Flag Raising Ceremony and Parade marking the Centennial Celebration of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Boston City Hall Plaza: Director-General Anne Hung, Mayor and Mrs. Thomas M. Menino, Government Officials, Community Leaders, Taiwan Students, and Over 1,000 Guests Attended.

Director-General Anne Hung, Massachusetts State Representatives Tackey Chan and Aaron Michlewitz, Boston City Council President Stephen Murphy, Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan, “Uncle Frank,” President of the Chinese Community of New England, Overseas Compatriot Leaders and students from Taiwan, led a parade numbering in the hundreds beginning in Chinatown to Boston City Hall Plaza, displaying large red banners in Chinese and English marking the Centennial Celebration of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Onlookers along the parade route watched as performers and marchers waived ROC and US flags.

Director-General Anne Hung addressed the gathering, first thanking organizers, participants, and the various groups involved. Ms. Hung stressed that it was wonderful to see such a great turnout, especially after more than ten years since the last parade. She also said that it was encouraging to see the wonderful support of the community and patriotism by Overseas Compatriots and students from Taiwan.

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino also addressed the gathering saying that when it comes to the fight for freedom and human rights he stands one with the Republic of China. He went on to express his pleasure in seeing so many young people turn out for the Centennial event.
