Machinery in motion to beautify St. Kitts

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 03, 2012 (SKNIS): A key piece of machinery has been commissioned to beautify St. Kitts with the handing over of a Motorized Mower to the Parks and Beaches Unit in Ministry of Health.

The machine was handed over by representatives of the Republic of China (Taiwan) this morning in a brief ceremony chaired by Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Andrew Skerritt. The Acting P.S. said the Republic of China (ROC) has been long serving in their assistance to, and development of our people here in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Resident Ambassador of the ROC to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis Mr. Miguel Tsao,thanked the Minister of Health Hon. Marcella Liburd and her team for their hard work and direction of the Ministry and said the ROC is always happy to assist in helping to keep St. Kitts and Nevis one of the top 10 most beautiful destinations in the world.

“St. Kitts and Nevis indeed is a paradise” said Ambassador Tsao. “The scenery here is captivating and breathtaking. That is one of the many many reasons the twin island country is considered one of the top ten touristic destinations in the world.”

“This is not only a Government achievement, but also happiness, a tangible result shared by all in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis” he also said. “Your country is blessed with such beautiful mountain, pristine beaches and awesome landscapes - that is a gift from God.”

In giving brief remarks, Minister of Health Hon. Marcella Liburd described the ceremony as small, but having a huge impact on the appearance of this country.

“We are always delighted to be partnering with the republic of China on Taiwan” said Minister Liburd. “Over the last 28 years when you look around this country, you could see the impact of that partnership on all of us here in St. Kitts and Nevis. We are very grateful and thankful for the support of the Taiwanese Government and people.”

The Minister also took the opportunity to commend and congratulate the Parks and Beaches Unit, who in 2011 were recognized at the St. Kitts Tourism Authority Awards for their efforts to beautify St. Kitts for residents and visitors alike.

“We in the Department of Health and indeed the Parks and Beaches Unit take much pride in the beautification of our country and the country recognizes that” said the Health Minister. “Only very recently in the last Tourism Banquet, this unit got the award for the impact on the environment. And so, we would want to work with them and try to see how we could make it easier for them to work to beautify the country, and this is just one step in that direction” she also said.

The Minister added that the donation of this piece of landscaping equipment will further demonstrate the Ministry of Health and the ROC’s commitment to partnership for a more beautiful St. Kitts and Nevis.
