A majority of respondents to a recent survey said China has become more hostile toward the Taiwanese government and people than before, according to a senior official of the Cabinet-level Mainland Affairs Council (MAC).
The survey was conducted by National Chengchi University's Election Study Center under the commission of the MAC. Questionnaires were administered via telephone to randomly chosen adults from Aug. 10-12 and 1,095 valid samples were collected.
Quoting the survey results, MAC Vice Chairman Liu Te-hsun said 63.8 percent of the respondents think China is hostile toward the Taiwanese government and some 44.1 percent think China is not friendly toward the Taiwanese people.
The survey also shows that 67 percent of those polled ascribe Taiwan's difficulties in participating in international organizations and developing diplomacy to oppression by China.
Liu said China should come up with new thinking and measures to bring reconciliation across the Taiwan Strait instead of blocking Taiwan 's development in the international community.
The survey also shows that 64 percent of the respondents think Taiwan should make more effort to develop diplomatic achievements, even if it increases cross-Taiwan Strait tension.
