Adults and kids alike will enjoy The Puppet & Its Double Theater in Atlanta!
Taiwan's The Puppet & Its Double Theater, a puppetry performance group, has been invited by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) and the Center for Puppetry Art Center in Atlanta to present three captivating performances of the renowned play "The Selfish Giant" from May 24th to May 26th, 2024. The event will also feature one workshop, showcasing Taiwanese puppetry arts during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, offering audiences a delightful and unforgettable experience.
TECOs in Los Angeles and Houston have also extended an invitation to The Puppet & Its Double Theater for a U.S. tour. The tour includes performances on May 11 and 14 at Green River College in Seattle, May 24-May 26 at the Center for Puppetry Art Center in Atlanta, and June 1-2 at the Asia Society Texas Center in Houston, bringing a total of eight performances across the United States.
The Puppet & Its Double Theater is one of Taiwan’s finest performing arts troupes (Taiwan TOP Team) and was established in 1999. Its mission is to create challenging, innovative, and emotionally resonant puppet art. Upholding the concept that "everything is a puppet," the theater company has pioneered a new style in contemporary Taiwanese puppetry and aesthetics filled with magic and philosophy. Since its founding, the theater company has produced over 50 original works and remains committed to exploring new horizons in local and cross-cultural puppetry arts.
The U.S. tour performance of "The Selfish Giant" is a classic play suitable for family audiences. It is adapted from the renowned English author Oscar Wilde's fairy tale "The Selfish Giant," which tells the story of a selfish giant who becomes generous and ultimately enters heaven under divine guidance. The play is co-produced by The Puppet & Its Double Theater and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, offering a rich adaptation of a Western story, captivating storytelling, enchanting visual effects, and a talented cast to bring the puppet theater experience to life. The entire performance will be in English.
This tour is also a collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta, which has coordinated with the Taiwanese School of Georgia to donate two lion dance puppets as a permanent collection at the Center for Puppetry Art, ensuring the continued legacy of Taiwanese puppetry in the United States.
