Note for Taiwanese nationals returning to Taiwan with a Republic of China (Taiwan) passport within 6 months of expiration
Share
In 1998, Taiwan completed a bilateral agreement with the United States stipulating that a Passport issued by the Taiwan government for citizens with household registration (with an ID number on the passport information page) will grant the bearer admission to Taiwan for up to six months beyond the expiration date specified in the Passport.
In addition, if it has been less than 6 months after the specified expiration date, airlines and the US government should recognize the passport as a valid travel document for returning to Taiwan.
Based on the above agreement, Taiwanese citizens holding a Republic of China (Taiwan) passport with a national ID card number and within 6 months of expiration should be able to take a direct flight back to Taiwan from international airports in our service area (Northern California, Nevada and Utah).
