Sun Ta-chuan, Vice President of the Control Yuan, one of the five branches of the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and Dr. Bau Tzong-Ho, came to Rome to learn about humanitarian and charitable practices in the Holy See-related organizations and to offer their collaboration.
Vice President Sun and Dr. Bau attended the weekly General Audience on September 21st and had the privilege to be presented to Pope Francis. Sun greeted the Holy Father on behalf of the Taiwanese people and shook hands with him, who kindly asked Sun to pray for the Pontiff.
Ambassador Lee accompanied the two Taiwanese officials to pay a visit to Msgr. Gian Pietro Dal Toso, Secretary of the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum”. During the meeting, Msgr. Dal Toso explained that the future merging of four dicasteries into one, including his, will help to better handle refugee issues, as refugee problems are closely connected with humanitarian relief.
The Control Yuan officials left Italy with a better understanding of the humanitarian activities carried out by the Vatican both locally and abroad.
