TMU Research Center of Brain and Consciousness (RCBC) is composed of scientists, clinicians and philosophers investigating the levels and contents of consciousness. The center conducts research into normal and altered states of consciousness through a range of techniques, including multi-modal brain imaging and brain stimulation. The aim of research is to advance the understanding of what consciousness is, how it arises, and how it can be impaired. The center hopes that these advances can then be applied to the development of improved treatment and diagnosis for psychiatric and neurological disorders.
Prospective Students
- Medical Doctors, Doctors of Dental Medicine, Registered Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, other Medical Practitioners, and Medical School graduates or students, who harbor an interest in mind-brain research but who lack the essential skills, including: experimental design, statistical analysis, setting parameters for imaging equipment, imaging data analysis, translational medicine, manuscript preparation, as well as knowledge of relevant theories of consciousness and cognition.
- Students with background in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, or related disciplines, but who lack knowledge of, experience with, and exposure to translational medicine and various neurological, psychiatric, and other disorders of mind or consciousness.
- Students with medical school, cognitive neuroscience, psychology or degrees in other related disciplines, but who lack research experience with EEG, fMRI, MRS, TMS, tDCS, PET, and other cognitive neuroscience investigative technologies.
- Engineers, experts in computation or computer science, and physicists, who have an interest in the mind-brain but who lack training or experience in conducting mind-brain research in a clinical context with an emphasis on translational medicine.
- Students who have a background in theory or conceptual analysis (e.g., philosophies of mind, cognition, consciousness, or science), but who lack experience with empirical, experimental, or clinical research.
- Students with an interest in the scientific study of consciousness, its levels and its contents, especially clinically-relevant investigations and translational medicine.
- Students from Taiwan with a keen desire to study overseas, but who lack adequate foundation; to these students we will provide MA-Level training that will prepared them for Ph.D.-Level work at universities overseas.
- International students from Asia who seek training in mind-brain research in a clinical context.
- International students from North America, Europe, and Australasia, especially those who wish to participate in our ongoing large-scale research projects (as sponsored through our Brain and Consciousness Research Center), investigations that due to their multi-modal (EEG, TMS, fMRI, MRS, PET, etc.) nature are not commonplace in any country.
TMU international students may apply for scholarships as soon as they are admitted to the Institute.
