The 37th Taiwan-Australia Joint Business Conference, held from 7 to 9 August in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, concluded with fruitful discussions. This key annual event for Taiwan-Australia private sectors was co-organised by the Australia-Taiwan Business Council (ATBC) and the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA).
Delegations were led by Shyi-Chin Wang, Chairman of the ROC-Australia Business Council, and Thomas Wu, Chairman of the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce, with around 130 attendees participating. Special remarks were delivered by Representative Douglas Hsu, Tim Ayres (Assistant Minister for a Future Made in Australia and Trade), Cameron Dick (Deputy Premier and Treasurer of Queensland), and CC Chen (Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs).
The conference theme, “Australia and Taiwan: Smart Partnership for a Smart Future,” encompassed five key topics: Critical Minerals, Energy Transition, Biotechnology, Advanced Manufacturing/Defence & Space, and Cybersecurity. Speakers expressed confidence in the significant potential for cooperation.
The ATBC and ROCABC endorsed the expansion of CPTPP membership to include Taiwan. Under Representative Hsu's oversight, legislators Yi-Ying Chiu, Po-Yi Lee, and Pei-Yi Wu witnessed the signing of a joint statement by Chairman Wang and John Toigo, aiming for mutual benefits under the CPTPP framework.
Established in 1985, the Taiwan-Australia Joint Business Conference serves as a vital platform for private sector engagement, aimed at deepening bilateral relationships through business exchanges.
