The National Taiwan Library offers the Fellowship for International Visiting Scholars to promote international academic exchange and cooperation, and to encourage scholars from foreign universities and research institutions to conduct research in Taiwan.
Eligible research fields are primarily in the humanities and social sciences, with research topics limited to Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies.
Applicants should be faculty members, researchers, postdoctoral fellows, or doctoral students affiliated with foreign universities or academic institutions, or be recommended by institutions that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Library. Individuals currently studying, teaching, or conducting research in Taiwan are not eligible to apply.
Online applications are open from now until 20th April 2026, and the results are generally announced by the end of April on their website.
The Fellowship provides a round-trip economy-class airfare subsidy and a monthly research grant (NTD 60,000 for PhD holders and NTD 40,000 for non-PhD applicants). The duration of the award is generally between 3 and 6 months and may not extend across calendar years.
Applicants are required to complete the online application and submit all required documents, including a curriculum vitae (with publication list), research proposal (generally limited to three pages), a letter of recommendation, and a letter of approval from their home institution.
