The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) held a webinar, July 8, to exchange views on medical exchanges between Taiwan and Europe, featuring the participation of Ambassador Ming-Yen Tsai and the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control of the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Ambassador Tsai thanks the CPME for its long-term support for Taiwan’s participation in the WHO, and shares Taiwan’s epidemic prevention efforts, including: (1) Its experience of the prevention and treatment of SARS; (2) The rapid increase in production capacity by the government so as to ensure the sufficient domestic provision of masks and medical equipment, as well as the ability to offer support to the international Society; (3) Using technology to assist in epidemic prevention; (4) Decision-making is transparent and attaching importance to social communication.
Dr Song-En Huang from the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Health and Welfare, also gave a presentation detailing the results of Taiwan's fight against the pandemic, including the initial prevention measures and the response to the recent outbreak. The presentation also covered the vaccinations and related measures in Taiwan.
Dr. Frank Ulrich Montgomery, President of the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), expressed his view that the epidemic in Taiwan has been well controlled and that although there has been an outbreak recently, it has not spread on a large scale, and that its experience of pandemic prevention should be shared with other countries. He also stressed that public health is a humanitarian cause and should not be subject to political considerations, and that Taiwan should not be excluded from the WHA.
