On the 19th of January 2022, Secretary-General Julie Bynens and Deputy Minister of the Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Harry Ho-jen Tseng signed the new overarching Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between Flanders and Taiwan, which brings together pre-existing MoUs in the fields of investment, sustainable energy, education, employment and vocational training, science and technology, and public health.
The MoU also declares that a biennial Joint Commission will be established to review and enlarge ongoing cooperation between both sides.
The official representatives from both Flanders and Taiwan toasted the agreement after the signing, affirming their commitment to further strengthening the cooperative relations.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the signing ceremony took place in a hybrid manner. Representative Ming-Yen Tsai of the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium was invited to attend the signing ceremony at the Errera House, while Deputy Minister Tseng took part via video link from Taipei.
