Calling for Submissions around the World : Bring Emerging Talents to the International Stage with Abundant Resources
TFDA, the most iconic large-scale fashion contest in Asia, is sponsored by Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (IDB), and organized by Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF). It aims to discover talents in fashion design. From now on to June 30, it publicly opens for global submissions from new generation designers on the official website and 12 design elites will be chosen to compete for the prize.
Starting from 1987, TFDA is entering its 36th this year. In 2013, it has expanded into a global contest, cumulative drawing nearly 14,000 participants around the world. The contest platform for new contestants encourages participating designers to make their impact at the initial stage of design, and through different issues, such as social observation, humanistic comprehension, environmental care, and future imagination, to keep a perfect balance in the four perspectives: "creative" sense of aesthetic, comfortable “performance", multiple "functions" and "sustainable" development.
The fashion industry needs the injection of young blood in order to create a sustainable and circular development of the industry. A stable and steady pace is also needed then. TFDA provides an opportunity for designers who have just stepped into or are about to step into the industry to sprout, develop and thrive. The finalists can not only be seen in the premium venue of Taipei Fashion Week, but also continue to participate in the "New Breed Show" of Taipei Fashion Week. They can cooperatively work with other new designers to refine their practical skills and go through hoops to mature their work styles under the incentive of contest instead of training.
Ever since a long time, in addition to the resources contributed by the government, the advocation of this contest has also received responses from industry and academia. This year, enterprises such as Lealea Enterprise Co., Ltd., Li Peng Enterprise Co., Ltd., Coddy Global LTD., and Fortune Industrial and Commercial Development Foundation, also contribute the prize reward of US$35,000 (nearly NT$1.3 million), to practically encourage designers who are interested in fashion design to participate.
