Belgian Secretary of State, Mr. Mathieu Michel, spoke out on behalf of Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, in answering questions by Honorable Members, Chairwoman Ms. Els Van Hoof, Mr. Georges Dallemagne and Ms. Annick Ponthier at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Representatives on May 18, noted that Belgium defends an inclusive health policy, commends Taiwan’s performance in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, and regards it appropriate to invite Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) as an observer to further strengthen the functioning of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Last May, Belgian Deputy Prime minister and Foreign Minister, Ms. Sophie Wilmès also publicly expressed support for Taiwan’s participation at the 74th WHA. We appreciate that the Belgian government reaffirmed its support for Taiwan’s participation in the WHO/WHA, and thank the Honorable Members for their unwavering support for Taiwan’s international participation.
