The European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) informed the Taipei Representative Office in the EU and Belgium on 11 June that mangoes and guavas from Taiwan are eligible for import into the European Union, subject to prior notification. This approval permits immediate access to all EU Member States and marks a significant milestone for Taiwan’s agricultural exports to premium markets.
Taiwanese mangoes are currently exported to Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. Guavas have been approved for import into the United States, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Palau. The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency (APHIQ) has successfully demonstrated the professionalism, maturity, and international credibility of Taiwan’s quarantine treatment technologies and regulatory systems, meeting the EU’s stringent requirements for fresh fruit imports and opening the door to broader international markets for Taiwanese fruit growers.
Taiwanese agricultural products are widely recognized for their consistent supply and assured quality. To further enhance global market visibility and export growth, the Taipei Representative Office in EU Member States, in cooperation with Taiwanese business associations overseas, will actively leverage their on-the-ground experience and networks to meet the procurement demands of major EU distribution channels. These efforts aim to establish a long-term, stable supply chain and sales network for Taiwan’s key fruit, agricultural, and fishery products across Europe.
In parallel, the Ministry of Agriculture together with this mission will continue to utilize existing bilateral agricultural cooperation platforms with countries such as the Netherlands, France, Poland, and Lithuania to strengthen ties with local distributors and promote business partnerships. Furthermore, diverse cross-sector promotional efforts—including engagement through sports events and cultural venues—will be undertaken to boost consumer awareness. The ultimate goal is to position Taiwan’s high-quality fresh fruits as a preferred choice among European consumers who value health and quality, thereby strengthening Taiwan’s agricultural brand and expanding its market footprint across the EU.
