On 16 October 2020, together with the Immigration Division and Labour Divison, Deputy Representative Yang of The Taipei Representative Office has visited Info-Integration, the Belgium German-speaking Community Center for Migration and Integration, and has exchanged views on immigration and integration matters with Info-Integration’s Director Veronique Wetzelaer and its staff.
The competence of Immigration and integration in Belgium falls under various local governments. The development of this area of competence in the German-speaking Community is relatively new but well-developed. After a detailed explanation of the area’s historical evolution and the four main components of integration pathway by the Center, both parties had a lively Q&A session, followed by the visit of the Center’s facilities, enthusiastically led by Director Wetzelaer.
At noon, both parties enjoyed the simple and delicious meals prepared by the Center and continued to exchange views during lunch. Deputy Yang also took the opportunity to inform about Taiwan’s current epidemic situation and preventive measures. Director Wetzelaer and her colleagues were surprised that there were only around 500 accumulated cases in Taiwan, and were deeply impressed by Taiwan's immediate and comprehensive epidemic preventive measures.
At the end of the visit, on behalf of the Office, Deputy Representative Yang has offered as gifts to the Center a bottle of Kavalan Whiskey and the ‘New Immigrant Pre-Entry Guidance Handbook’ published by the Taiwan National Immigration Agency, marking a successful end to this fruitful visit.
