Representative Ting hosted President S. Mohinder Singh and committee members of the Lions Club of BSB at his residence at 7 pm on January 5, 2012.
In his opening remarks, Representative Ting greeted them "Happy New Year" and expressed his appreciation for their generous support on Taiwan's participation in UNFCCC, ICAO and other international organizations. He also elaborated on the New Year message of President Ma entitled "Lit candles for the next generation".
Representative Ting mentioned that although Taiwan was greatly affected by the financial crisis and debt crisis of Europe, the economic growth is still strong. Taiwan surprised the world with its advanced research & development on technology and humanitarian assistance. Taiwan had contributed 1.7 billion USD, ranking the first in the world, to Japan on its earthquake and tsunami incident in last March. President Ma expressed that the Taiwan's Government has always endeavor to achieve the expectations of the people to create a peaceful, prosperity, harmony and progress society, and also to become a cultural navigator and peacemaker.
President Mohinder expressed that the Lions Club of BSB agreed with the concept of President Ma. Last year they accepted the invitation of the Taiwan's sister lions club to visit Taiwan, they witnessed the prosperity of Taiwan and friendliness of its people, they will further strengthen the relations between the lions club of Taiwan and Brunei, also to meaningfully participate in the relevant activities of the international organizations.
The dinner was pleasant and lasted for 3 hours.
