Congratulations to all the 25 wonderful women in Benque Viejo, Cayo, who completed the Banana Fiber training course and got rewarded with their Certificate of Completion!
On January, 2023 , Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien was delighted to attend the closing ceremony of the training course mentioned-above, funded by TaiwanICDF under the Belize-Taiwan cooperative framework of the Project titled "Enhancing the Economic Empowerment of Women in Belize in the COVID-19 Post Pandemic Era: Technical Assistance for Women's Employment, Entrepreneurship and Financial Inclusion," jointly with Hon. Jorge Espat, Area Representative of Cayo West, Ms. Orla Kantun-Coleman, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration of Belize, and Mrs. Katie Jones, Principal of Mopan Technical High School. The training focused on teaching women how to turn the raw banana fiber into useful resources and develop a source of income by producing beautiful handicrafts as high quality merchandise. We feel so proud that all the 25 participants have learned the skills while demonstrating their banana fiber products in the closing ceremony.
As women empowerment is the key element to national and social development in the country, the Embassy will continuously work with the Government of Belize to promote women capacity building and female entrepreneurship of MSMEs and to enhance the benefits of Belizean people.
