On Feb. 24, Ambassador Lily Li-Wen Hsu, along with the entire Embassy staff and Taiwan Technical Mission, was delighted to host the Lantern Festival Celebration at the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Belize. The Embassy appreciates very much that many members of the Taiwanese community as well as Belizean friends from different areas also joined in the event to celebrate the festival together.
In order to create more opportunity for cultural exchange between Taiwan and Belize, Belizean students who are learning mandarin and art students of Ms. Fiona Hsu were invited to exhibit their artistic hand-made lanterns. The creative and colorful artworks have indeed brought much joy to the special occasion.
In addition, mandarin teachers Ms. Heidi Hsiao and Ms. Snow Chen prepared paper-cutting, calligraphy and lantern painting activities. Moreover, Mr. Miguel Wang from the Taiwan Technical Mission and Ms. Joey Liao, Taiwanese student studying in Belize, made the event more lively by their eye-catching performances of San Tai Zi dancing show and diabolo show. The celebration also showcased Taiwan’s gourmet food such stir-fried vermicelli, steam sticky rice, dumplings, cakes and the most important dessert for the Lantern Festival – Yuanxiao, whose round shape symbolizes family reunion.
Best wishes to the people of Taiwan and Belize in the Year of the Dragon!
