The Taiwan Embassy would like to congratulate the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) in Belize for successfully hosting a workshop and training course to promote proficiency for breeding new vegetable varieties in the Latin America and Caribbean region (LAC) from April 22 to 26. The event was part of the project “LAC Vegetable Network” implemented by the World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) and sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
With participation of Belize and several other countries in the region, the event helped to improve the proficiency of researchers on disease diagnosis and management, breeding strategies, and seed production, with special focus on pepper and tomato.
The Embassy thanks Minister of Agriculture Hon. Jose Mai, his team, and other stakeholders’ support and participation in this project. By developing improved vegetable varieties that are resilient to the impact of climate change, increasing production and profits to farmers, and improving diet and health for the people, this multilateral collaboration will benefit Belize and many countries in the region.
