On June 17 Ambassador Lily Li-Wen Hsu had the pleasure to attend the Opening Ceremony of “Sewing Training to Underprivileged Adolescent Girls and Women” in Pueblo Viejo, Toledo District. Also present at the ceremony were Hon. Oscar Requena, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Local Government and Labour, Mr. Gustavo Requena, Director of the Office of Indigenous People’s Affairs, Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous People’s Affairs, Mrs. Alexya Perez, Foreign Service Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, as well as Chief Robert Pan and Project Manager Jill Cai of the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize.
The training is funded by TaiwanICDF under the Belize-Taiwan Women’s Empowerment Project cooperative framework, providing women and adolecent girls in Pueblo Viejo Village with sewing training and related knowledge, with an aim to better support them with practical skills to generate income and improve their livelihood.
The Embassy is honored to work with the Government of Belize to promote women’s capacity building and to enhance the welfare of Belizean people.
