17-year-old Alyssa Fisher has been selected as an awardee of the 28th Fervent Global Love of Lives Medal by the Chou, Ta-Kuan Cultural & Educational Foundation in Taiwan. This September, she and her mother, Carol Fisher, will travel to Taiwan to receive this prestigious award alongside inspiring honorees from 11 countries.
Alyssa, Valedictorian of Wesley High in 2024, who was born blind due to Retinopathy of Prematurity, making history as the school’s first blind graduate speaker. This August, she will begin her studies in Paralegal studies at Wesley Junior College, driven by a mission to champion the rights of the visually impaired.
As a proud member of the National Children’s Parliament under UNICEF Belize, Alyssa has already been using her voice to address issues facing her community. Now, she aspires to combine legal knowledge with advocacy to fight for a more inclusive society—one where blind individuals are seen, heard, and supported.
“I’ve come to realize that true vision goes beyond what our eyes can see.” Her journey is a beacon of courage, love, and transformation. Taiwan applauds her spirit, Belize beams with pride, and the world is moved by her passion.
