Enjoy Taiwan Your Way
Through its “Youth Trekker’s Wanted” campaign, the National Youth Commission (NYC) has over the past three years awarded travel funds to nearly 50 youths from around the world to help them achieve their Taiwan travel dreams. NYC is again welcoming international youth to Taiwan in the 4th “Youth Trekker’s Wanted Campaign”. Applications must be submitted by December 11th, 2011. We encourage all international youth aged 18~30 (dob between Jan 1st, 1981 and Dec 31, 1993) who love to travel and share their experiences to submit their dream Taiwan itinerary for consideration. Submitted itineraries must be 10 days or longer, center on a theme chosen by the applicant, and reflect youthful energy and enthusiasm. Once completed, upload your entry to the official activity website. We will award the best 20 entrants with US$2,000 ~ US$3,000, good toward making their Taiwan dream trip come true!
Experience Life, Taiwan Style!
The National Youth Commission offers a variety of innovative travel plans and programs to encourage international backpack travelers to visit and enjoy Taiwan. Through activities at 41 Youth Travel Spots and an extensive youth travel service network (including the value-packed Youth Travel Card, Digital Tour Buddy, attractive rates at Youth Guesthouses, TR Rail Pass discounts, and free Tour Buddy guide programs), the NYC opens the door for international youth to fully explore Taiwan and get “up close and personal” with our diverse people, society, culture and environment.
Ready, Set … Go! Share Your Adventure in Taiwan with the World
From March through August 2011, the NYC welcomed eighteen 3rd “Youth Trekkers Wanted” campaign finalists to Taiwan. Each was eager to commence personal journeys through Taiwan, as outlined in their winning itineraries. Looking to gain a better understanding of Taiwan’s world-renowned artisanal leather industry, Hong Kong leather designer Kelvin Lai visited leather artisans from Taitung in the southeast to Taipei’s Xinyi District in the north and all parts in between. Roux, a youth traveler from Paris, planned his itinerary to the rhythms of Taiwan’s cinema. Roux experienced the island by bicycle as portrayed in the 2005 film Island Etude and followed Director Hou Hsiao-hsien’s footsteps through the picturesque hillside town of Jiufen, the setting for Hou’s seminal 1989 film City of Sadness. Enric from Spain arranged his itinerary to explore the ins and outs of Taiwan tea and tea culture. From world-popular “bubble teas” to high mountain Oolongs, Enric is enamored with both traditional Taiwan culture and the “art” of exceptional teas. Keir, an energetic teacher from Canada, used his Taiwan trek to climb Yushan, the island’s highest peak, as well as scuba dive and surf off Kenting and white water raft down Huanlien’s Xiuguluan River. He even rose before sunrise to join early morning shadowboxing exercises at Taipei’s Sun Yat-Sen Memorial.
Taiwan offers unlimited vacation trek possibilities. All it takes is imagination to fill an itinerary with interesting and exciting things to do. Taiwan is a treasure house of culture, nature and friendly people waiting for you to discover! We warmly welcome all international youth aged 18~30 to submit their creative travel itinerary ideas before the December 11th, 2011 deadline. You too can make your Taiwan dreams come true!
