The Tjimur Dance Theatre from Taiwan took centre stage at the Vancouver Playhouse on March 29th and 30th, 2019. Its performance of "Varhung ~ Heart to Heart" made an inspiring end to the 2019 Vancouver International Dance Festival (VIDF).
The Tjimur Dance Theatre is Taiwan’s first contemporary indigenous dance-theatre company focusing on the Paiwan culture. The performers expressed their emotions through traditional songs and the rhythms of the body, and deeply moved the audience.
TECO Director General Andy Chen attended the performance and the post-show reception on March 29. Director General Chen remarked that Taiwan’s modern dance combines traditional and contemporary, eastern and western, local and international elements. Its unique style is presented through innovative choreography. Like Canada, Taiwan is proud of its multicultural heritage that has shaped Taiwan into an inclusive and creative society it is today.
