On June 9th, Fo Guang Shan Temple in Toronto held the "2024 Inter-Faith Prayers for World Peace and Buddha’s Light Vegetarian Food Fair Carnival" inviting representatives from various religions to come together to pray for world peace. The event attracted thousands of community members and their families to participate in the vegetarian carnival, creating a warm atmosphere.
Deputy Director General Nicolas Hong, on behalf of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto, extended heartfelt gratitude to Venerable Chueh Fan of Fo Guang Shan Temple and to President Mable Lam of Buddha’s Light International Association of Toronto for their dedication and efforts in fostering unity and harmony in our community. Echoing the speeches of religious leaders and in light of ongoing international conflicts and tensions, he stressed the need to consider the next generation’s future and called for collective efforts to build a compassionate and kind world.
Deputy Director General Hong, along with Canada's Minister of Small Business, Rechie Valdez, MP Iqra Khalid, MPP Nina Tangri, Acting mayor of Mississauga Martin Reid and City Councillor Dipika Damerla, witnessed Venerable Chueh Fan ringing the "Peace Bell" to kick off the vegetarian carnival.
The vegetarian carnival showcased various specialty foods from around the world and featured educational games and activities for families. Children and adults alike enjoyed the delicious vegetarian offerings while exploring the booths, making it a fun and eco-friendly Meatless Day celebration.
