A special reception “Roots Loves Taiwan” was held to celebrate Roots’ 20th anniversary in Taiwan on the evening of March 22 at Roots flagship store in downtown Toronto. As invited by Roots Co-Founder Michael Budman, Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Toronto Catherine Y. M. Hsu and staff members attended the celebrations. Also presented were several local politicians, leaders of Taiwanese communities in Toronto and Taiwanese students studying in Canada. In her congratulation remarks, DG Hsu underscored the friendly and mutually beneficial partnership between Taiwan and Roots. She also hoped that more Canadian firms would do business with Taiwan.
In association with Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau, a Roots team earlier this year travelled to Taiwan, staying there for 2 weeks to shoot photos for its latest marketing campaign spotlighting its success in Taiwan. Roots now has opened in Taiwan almost as many stores (107) as in Canada (110). To express its appreciation to Taiwan and highlight the great importance it has placed on Taiwan market, Roots hosted the March 22 reception, launching the latest campaign with tagline “Roots loves Taiwan.” Window displays featuring Taiwan also began appearing at the downtown store and later at other Roots locations in Toronto, which will last for several weeks.
During the gala night, Taiwanese street food, bubble teas, cocktails and music were prepared by local Taiwanese business and Taiwanese community leaders. The atmosphere was joyful, full of Taiwanese characteristics.
