This year marks the 150th anniversary of Rev. George Leslie Mackay’s arrival in Tamsui, Northern Taiwan, highlighting the long-lasting friendship between Taiwan and Canada. Numerous events both in Canada and Taiwan are well prepared to celebrate his contribution to Taiwan as well as the Canada-Taiwan friendship.
The Mackay Story Wall at the Tamsui MRT Station, located in New Taipei City of Taiwan, has now been displayed showcasing Rev. Mackay’s life and contribution to Taiwan, including the founding of schools, hospitals and over 60 churches in Taiwan. The story wall was organized by Taiwan Tamsui Presbyterian Church, the first church founded by Rev. Mackay in 1872.
At the end of last year, Director General Chen Jinling of the TECO, Toronto paid a special visit to Rev. Mackay's hometown of Oxford County, Ontario, and met with Warden Larry Martin and the mayors to warm up for the events in this year in commemoration of the 150-year friendship of Canada and Taiwan.
The series of commemorative activities will start in early March, including a documentary about the legend of Mackay, symposiums, and exhibits. Please pay close attention to TECO’s FB page and Twitter to witness and celebrate the precious and long-lasting friendship between Canada and Taiwan!
