Taiwan is the host of this year’s Summer Universiade, and the Danish team will be represented by 51 participants, a record size team. Athletes will be participating in 5 of 21 events, namely track and field, fencing, gymnastics, tennis and weight lifting.
In 2015 the Danish team had a record number of 16 participants. This year the team size has more than doubled. To qualify for the races, the athletes must be students born between 1989-1999. The Universiade takes place every second year.
“The team members who participated two years ago had a really good experience. The athletics, combined with the overall event, made a memorable experience. This positive feedback will continue to raise the profile of the Universiade games,” says Thijs Nijhuis. He is the co-leader of the Danish national team with Jens Bundgaard, manager of AU Elitesport at Aarhus University.
