
As part of its Anchor 100 initiative to attract the world’s top companies to the emirate, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a meeting with Amway Taiwan Company Limited to discuss the leading direct sales company establishing a branch in Dubai.
Mr Atiq Juma Nasib, Senior Director, Commercial Services Sector, Dubai Chamber, met with Shirley Chen, General Manager of Amway Taiwan Company Limited, and Azmi Chang, Director General of the Commercial Office of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Dubai, which aims to promote bilateral trade, business and investment between Taiwan and the UAE, to discuss business opportunities in Dubai and the region using the emirate as a base.
Mr Nasib urged the company, which has more than 360,000 distributors, to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Dubai market. These, he said, include modern infrastructure, a diverse and open business community that welcomes foreign investment.
“Dubai, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has become the leading economic hub for the region and a commercially attractive base for global businesses,” Mr Nasib said.
“Dubai Chamber is here to provide you with support and assistance to establish a presence in the Dubai market as part of our new initiative to attract the world’s leading 100 companies to the emirate,” Mr Nasib added.
Mrs Chen said she was impressed by Dubai’s economic development and how the city has positioned itself as the business capital of the Middle East and North Africa region.
The General Manager of Amway Taiwan Company Limited was in Dubai as part of the annual retreat of the company which brought approximately 1,000 distributors of her company to Dubai to stay at the Atlantis Hotel Jumeirah for five days. The programme sought to enhance motivation and performance.
Mrs Chen said Dubai was a city of dreams, revealing that the costs of Dubai’s visit had reached US$ 5 million, covering tourism and entertainment for the guests during their stay as well as accommodation costs.
In terms of establishing a branch in Dubai, Mrs Chen said there was a desire to take advantage of the opportunities here, especially given Dubai’s wide consumer base and the chance to enter use Dubai as a gateway to regional markets.
On his part, Mr Chang said that bilateral relations between Taiwan and Dubai would improve following the launch of a direct Emirates airline flight, due to start in February 2014. This new service would help to encourage further cooperation and development between Dubai and Taiwan.
During Amway Taiwan’s visit, Dubai Chamber’s Chairman H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair participated in a dinner organised by the company for its distributors where he expressed the organisation’s commitment to provide support and facilities to help the company enter the Dubai market.
Established in November 1982, Amway Taiwan Company Limited is the Taiwanese branch of the American company Amway Corporation. It has 500 staff, marketing over 400 products through its network of over 336,000 distributors and members.
