On October 6th, 2011, The Commercial Office of the Republic of China to Dubai celebrated the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of China in The Palace – The Old Town hotel located in downtown Dubai. There were over 250 guests and VIPs in attendance, making this the largest national day celebration for the Republic of China in recent years.
The reception kicked-off with the singing of the national anthems of the UAE and the Republic of China, respectively. It was followed by a warm welcome from the Director General of the Commercial Office of the Republic of China, Mr. Azmi Chang. Director General Chang told the guests that the Republic of China faced substantial challenges in the past year, but under the determination and dedication of everyone, the ROC has been able to weather the storm and elevate its economy, along with raising national competitiveness, promote bilateral relations, and defend the ideals of democracy. The Director General also drank to the health of everyone in attendance, and wished the ROC a prosperous start to its next hundred years. With all the overseas-Chinese working in-unison to promote the ROC, the Director believes that Taiwan will fare extremely well down the road as an international beacon of democracy.
One of the major highlights of the celebration this year is the unveiling of traditional Chinese art performance by three youngsters from the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts. Their outstanding performance of Beijing Opera along with circus tricks made the atmosphere electric for all those in attendance.
Four overseas-Chinese from Abu Dhabi performed traditional UAE dances to the excitement of the audience. To conclude the night, all those in attendance sang the traditional Chinese song “Standing on the Mountain top”, along with “Happy Birthday” to mark a perfect ending to this historical night.
