In a gesture of lasting friendship and partnership within the Pacific family, the Government of Taiwan, through its Taipei Trade Office in Fiji, donated Solar Home Unit Systems valued at USD 100,000 to the Government of Fiji on 17 June 2025. The handover ceremony was held in Suva, where Representative Joseph Chow officially presented the donation, received by Mr. Moape Rokosuka, Head of Finance and Cooperation Service from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Solar Home Unit Systems, marked with the message “Love from Taiwan,” will provide clean and reliable electricity to Naviavia Village—home to 350 residents in Wailevu West, Cakaudrove—as well as to Saint Paul Primary School, which serves 80 students. This initiative is expected to improve daily living conditions and enhance learning environments in underserved communities.
In his remarks, Representative Chow emphasized the solidarity between Taiwan and Fiji as members of the Blue Pacific Continent, facing common challenges such as climate change, energy insecurity, and environmental vulnerability. He noted that this donation symbolizes a shared commitment to promoting clean, affordable, and sustainable energy for all Pacific communities.
Representative Chow further commended Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visionary leadership in advancing renewable energy and reaffirmed Taiwan’s dedication to ongoing cooperation with Fiji to achieve sustainable development goals. “Taiwan is proud to stand with Fiji and light up not only homes—but hopes,” he said.
Mr. Rokosuka expressed heartfelt appreciation for Taiwan’s support, noting that the donation will make a tangible difference in the lives of people in remote areas. “The Fijian government deeply values this expression of goodwill and looks forward to continued collaboration with Taiwan in the renewable energy space,” he said.
This donation is more than a contribution to infrastructure—it is a reaffirmation of shared values across the Pacific: solidarity, mutual assistance, and sustainability. Through this collaboration, Taiwan seeks to work hand in hand with Pacific island nations to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change, while embodying its commitment to being a true partner that leaves no one behind. It is Taiwan’s hope that this initiative brings light, dignity, and lasting friendship to Fijian communities and beyond.
