The Taipei Representative Office in Greece, representation of Taiwan’s government in Greece and Bulgaria, has offered financial aid to two green technology cooperation projects between Bulgarian organizations and Taiwan this year, showing its strong support for energy sustainability through technology, as well as its support for partnership between Bulgarian and Taiwanese organizations.
Both projects are designed and implemented by Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry (III), one of the most active NGOs in the green technology sector.
In cooperation with Pirogov Hospital, Bulgaria’s top hospital for emergency medicine in the capital city, the III has established the "Smart LED Lighting Power Saving Monitoring System," replacing traditional lamps into the latest energy-saving flat panel LED lighting equipment, and monitoring the power consumption to improve the hospital's power efficiency. The III hopes to use this project to establish a local demonstration site to tap into local green energy conservation markets. The hospital held a press event on December 4, 2018.
The III also cooperates with Sofia Municipality to establish a "Smart Mobile Tour-Guide System" which provides instant dynamic interactive information of tourist attractions through tourists’ mobile phones and presents them in multi-language (Chinese, English and Bulgarian). The Sofia History Museum, Kovachevitsa, and several other attractions are currently included in the system, and system is expandable to include more attractions. The system was launched on December 4, 2018 at the Sofia History Museum. With this system, the distribution of tourist information can go-green, cut the printing cost, but reach out to more tourists.
In 2017, the III collaborated with the New Bulgarian University on the “the Intelligent Lighting Monitoring and Management System” for power usage monitoring. This system provides visualized real-time electricity usage monitoring information, as a means of energy management. The university has affirmed that the system helps it to cut cost and attain its carbon reduction goal.
A financing project completed in 2018 is yet another green technology project involving Taiwan. Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) jointly provide loans to the Sofia Electric Transport Company to purchase 30 electric buses and build 12 charging stations. The contract was signed in Sofia in October this year.
Speaking at the Pirogov event, Taiwan Representative to Greece Sherman S. Kuo said: “These projects are all wonderful examples of cooperation in green technology. We hope their success will create more exchange and cooperation between Bulgaria and Taiwan, not just in green technology, but can be expanded to various other aspects in the years to come.”
