On the morning of 29th July 2019, Director-General Mr. Charles Li of TECC in Chennai was invited to Presidency College, Chennai, to address the members of the Council Meeting of the College chaired by the Principal, Dr. R. Ravanan, with an aim to explore possible collaboration between the College and universities in Taiwan. Mrs.Juliana Chin, Deputy Director, also joined the meeting.
Director-General Charles Li addressed the gathering with a brief introduction about Taiwan. He elucidated about recent Taiwan-India relations in the aspects of trade and economic, science and technology and more importantly in the higher education sector about Taiwan Scholarship, Mandarin Chinese Scholarship. He encouraged more outstanding students to pursue their higher education and do collaborative research in Taiwan as well as the faculties to participate in workshops, conferences and exchange programs. He mentioned that there are 3 Taiwan Education Centres in IIT-M, SRM University and Vel Tech respectively in Chennai. He also extended his support for setting up one in this prestigious college. Also, he interacted with the faculties during the Q&A session and answered their questions on higher educational collaboration.
The 179 –years old Presidency College in Chennai is Ranked 3 rd in All India National Institute Ranking Framework – 2019 by MHRD, India. Currently has 5,000 students and it had produced 2 Nobel Laureates and countless outstanding alumni. The Presidency College was established in 1840 and is regarded as the Mother of the University of Madras when it was later affiliated with the University in 1857.
