Director-General Stephen Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in Chennai visited the Prema Vasam charitable institution located in the Gerugambakkam area of Chennai on May 14, 2026, to gain a firsthand understanding of the living and educational conditions of underprivileged children residing at the facility. On behalf of the Taiwan government, DG Hsu also donated INR 35,000 as a concrete demonstration of Taiwan’s humanitarian concern and social responsibility toward vulnerable communities. “Prema Vasam,” which in Tamil means “Where Love Resides,” has long been dedicated to caring for orphaned, differently-abled, and underprivileged children from vulnerable family backgrounds. The institution currently accommodates approximately 160 children. In addition to providing daily care, the organization also offers special education, rehabilitation, and psychological support services to help the children grow in a safe and caring environment. During the visit, DG Hsu warmly interacted with the children, medical staff, and special education teachers, and listened to a briefing by the institution’s head, Mr. Anto Selvyn Roy, regarding the organization’s operations and future needs. DG Hsu stated that children are the future hope of society and the nation, and that every child deserves the right to education and proper care. He further noted that Taiwan has long attached great importance to human rights, equality, and social welfare, and has actively supported vulnerable groups and charitable organizations through various means. He expressed hope that this donation would bring additional warmth and resources to the children. The institution expressed sincere appreciation to the Taiwan government and TECC for their support, noting that the donation would be used for the children’s education, medical care, and daily living needs, thereby helping provide a better living and learning environment for the children. DG Hsu also emphasized that TECC would continue to maintain exchanges and cooperation with local charitable organizations in the future, further deepening the humanitarian ties between Taiwan and society in southern India through concrete actions and conveying Taiwan’s “Force for Good.”
