170 Deserving Students Receive Scholarship through HRDP Programme

(EMU) – St. Kitts, November 21, 2018: 170 students selected from around the Federation were honoured on 21st November at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, with a scholarship from the Government and people of the Republic of China on Taiwan (ROC).

Following the presentation of a cheque valuing US$100,000 to the Ministry of Education to fund the 2018-2019 Human Resources Development Project (HRDP) in October, the individual scholarships were presented to students who show promise through their academic achievements and who are deserving of financial assistance.

Today is yet another time to stop and show our gratitude to our partners in nation building,’ expressed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Hon. Shawn Richards. He continued, “Today’s generous scholarship from our friends from ROC is an investment to ensure that more people in our nation can experience upper social mobility as a result of education.”

Resident Ambassador, His Excellency Tom Chih-Chiang Lee, expressed his personal pleasure and that of the ROC, to award this scholarship annually and other scholarship initiatives, “We are willing to provide our experience in education and provide assistance,” he assured. By doing so they are intend to foster enthusiastic citizens by allowing the deserving students to fulfil their educational dreams.”

Next year we intend to invite 30 individuals to train in Taiwan,” Ambassador Lee announced, while mentioning the nationals that are currently benefitting from a 10 week programme in Hospitality on Taiwan. “They are going to receive training in areas such as, (not limited to) air conditioning and repair and Chinese cooking.”

In closing, Minister Richards expressed great appreciation to the Ambassador Lee and the Government and people of ROC for their unwavering generosity and role they play in changing the lives of the young people of the Federation. To the scholarship recipients he said, “This scholarship is intended to help to brighten your academic future so that you can improve your life chances and eventually that of your families and your communities.”

Over the past twenty years the Government of Republic of China (Taiwan) (ROC) has been issuing the scholarships to empower the youth and show the impact of philanthropy.
