Starting from January 1, 2025, nationals from visa-exempt countries (including Thailand, the Philippines, and Brunei) will be eligible to apply for the Digital Nomad Visa.
1. This visa is available to individuals from visa-exempt countries who enter or stay in Taiwan for remote digital work.(Please click here for information on visa-exempt countries: https://www.boca.gov.tw/cp-149-4486-7785a-2.html)
2. Applicants must not be employed by the Taiwanese company and must meet at least one of the following criteria:
(1) Proof of having previously obtained a digital nomad visa from another country.
(2) Be at least 30 years old with an annual income of at least USD 40,000 in one of the past two years.
(3) Be between 20 and 30 years old with an annual income of at least USD 20,000 in one of the past two years.
3. Procedures:
(1) Visa applicants outside of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) should submit their applications to an R.O.C. (Taiwan) overseas mission, which will send the application materials to the National Development Council (NDC) to review the applicants' qualifications. Afterwards, the NDC will send the results back to the mission, which will further review the visa applications.
(2) Applicants who have already entered the R.O.C. (Taiwan) via visa exemption or a non-extendable visitor visa for other purposes (e.g., social visit, tourism, or business) must submit their digital nomad visa applications 10 working days before the current duration of stay expires to the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) or one of the Central, Southwestern, Southern, or Eastern Taiwan Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), which will send the application materials to the NDC to review the applicants' qualifications. Afterwards, the NDC will send the results back to BOCA or one of MOFA's Central, Southwestern, Southern, or Eastern Taiwan Offices for further review. Applicants who fail to obtain the visa must leave the R.O.C. (Taiwan) before their legal duration of stay expires.
(3) An interview may be required.
