On August 8, Ambassador Edward Tao headed to Nevis and paid courtesy calls on Honourable Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis Island Administration, and Deputy Governor-General Hyleeta Liburd.
Premier Brantley praised the rock-solid partnership between Taiwan and Saint Christopher and Nevis, stressing that support for Taiwan is a cross-party consensus. He commended Taiwan’s visible contributions to Nevis and recalled the historic 2019 visit by President Tsai Ing-wen — the first Taiwanese President to set foot on Nevis. Ambassador Tao reaffirmed Taiwan’s dedication to deepening cooperation with Nevis through sincerity and action, creating prosperity and happiness for both peoples.
Deputy Governor-General Liburd warmly welcomed the Ambassador and fondly recalled how her husband once accompanied Saint Christopher and Nevis' first Prime Minister Dr. the Right Hon. Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds on a historic visit to Taiwan. She thanked Taiwan’s scholarship programs for giving students the chance to earn degrees in Taiwan and broaden their horizons. Ambassador Tao stressed the importance of education, and reaffirmed that Taiwan is committed to working with the government of Saint Christopher and Nevis to empower more young people to shape a better future.
