The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Saint Kitts and Nevis is pleased to announce that an op-ed by Commissioner Chou Yew-woei of Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), titled “Call for Taiwan’s Substantive Participation in INTERPOL—Enhancing Joint Efforts to Combat Transnational Crime through Real-Time Intelligence Exchange,” has been prominently published by SKN Pulse and SKN Vibes.
In his article, Commissioner Chou underscores that INTERPOL—established in 1923 and now comprising 196 member states—is a critical platform for global law enforcement cooperation. He notes that Taiwan’s exclusion, driven by political factors rather than professional considerations, creates dangerous blind spots in the global security network. Without access to INTERPOL’s databases and the I-24/7 communication system, Taiwan is unable to share or receive real-time intelligence, weakening collective efforts to combat transnational threats such as cybercrime, human trafficking, and organized criminal networks.
Commissioner Chou highlights Taiwan’s strong policing record, with one of the world’s highest safety rankings and proven success in tackling drug trafficking, online fraud, child exploitation, and digital crime investigations. He stresses that supporting Taiwan’s meaningful participation in INTERPOL would strengthen global law enforcement cooperation, enhance intelligence exchange, and reinforce efforts to maintain security and stability worldwide.
Commissioner Chou calls on the international community to support Taiwan’s substantive participation in INTERPOL’s General Assembly, working groups, training programs, and joint operations, ensuring a more comprehensive and effective global security architecture.
