The St. Kitts and Nevis Layer Chicken Industry Sustainable Development Project marked a another milestone with the successful hatching of the first batch of layer chicks for 2026 at the Bayford’s Hatchery Management Center.
Established with technical and financial support from Taiwan ICDF and in continued collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the hatchery remains committed to producing high-quality, healthy, and certified layer chicks to strengthen the local poultry sector.
This week, local farmer Glenroy Stanley purchased 500 layer chicks from the Bayford’s Hatchery Management Center, officially launching a new production cycle. In the past, Mr. Stanley relied on importing chicks from Barbados; this marks his first time using locally produced chicks, offering greater convenience, reliability, and production stability.
Looking ahead, the project will continue to ensure a stable and certified supply of healthy chicks, helping farmers reduce dependence on imports. Through close cooperation with government agencies and local partners, the initiative aims to build a more resilient and sustainable egg-laying industry in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
