On the morning of February 24, Ambassador Edward Ling-wen Tao was honoured to attend and deliver remarks at the commissioning ceremony of the Basseterre Desalination Plant, noting that Taiwan is proud to collaborate with Saint Kitts and Nevis in strengthening national water security and building a healthier, more sustainable future.
This state-of-the-art facility produces two million gallons of water per day using advanced reverse osmosis technology, ensuring a reliable and climate-resilient supply for Basseterre and surrounding communities. TaiwanICDF partnered with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis by providing preferential loans to ensure the completion of this important project.
The ceremony was led by Prime Minister Terrance Drew and attended by Minister responsible for Water Services Konris Maynard, Cabinet members, senior officials, and residents.
Following the event, Ambassador Tao toured the plant with the Prime Minister and ministers and joined them in a ceremonial toast with freshly purified water — a symbol of confidence in a secure and resilient future.
This investment represents more than infrastructure — it is a commitment to a stronger and more resilient Saint Kitts and Nevis.
