Energy transition is no longer a concept — it is taking tangible form. The TaiwanICDF Technical Mission in St. Kitts and Nevis, in collaboration with engineers from St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC), has successfully completed the on-site assessment for a rooftop PV + BESS microgrid demonstration project at the SKELEC office building in mid-February 2026.
The joint technical team conducted comprehensive evaluations in three key areas:
Structural integrity and solar exposure analysis to verify rooftop load-bearing capacity and solar generation potential.
Safe and optimal Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) deployment planning, including spatial configuration, ventilation, and protection measures.
Microgrid control integration with the existing grid, ensuring seamless coordination between the PV + BESS system and the national grid to enhance reliability and resilience.
The project represents a significant milestone in advancing renewable energy deployment and grid modernization in St. Kitts and Nevis. TaiwanICDF reaffirmed its commitment to continued technical cooperation and capacity building, supporting the country’s sustainable energy transition and climate resilience efforts.
