A 34-member Youth Ambassador delegation from the Republic of China (Taiwan) has successfully wrapped up a four-day cultural and educational exchange across Saint Kitts and Nevis, reinforcing 43 years of bilateral partnership between the two nations.
Led by Representative Andy Liu from Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegation engaged in a series of high-level courtesy calls, youth symposiums, and cultural demonstrations from August 31 to September 3. During their visit, the delegates were granted audiences with Governor-General Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd and Deputy Governor-General for Nevis Her Honour Hyleeta Liburd.
At Nevis, the Youth Ambassadors attended an interactive reception joined by Premier the Honourable Mark Brantley, Cabinet Ministers, and students from the Nevis Sixth Form College. This was followed by a historical cultural tour and a Mandarin language immersion workshop organized by the Nevis Island Administration.
On Tuesday, September 2, the delegation visited the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) on Saint Kitts, where they were welcomed by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Education the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, alongside Minister of Youth Empowerment the Honourable Isalean Philip. CFBC students interacted dynamically with their Taiwanese peers through cultural showcases and a tasting of Taiwan’s iconic bubble tea.
The visit culminated in a packed "Taiwan Night" showcase on Tuesday evening, drawing over 300 attendees, including senior government officials, students, and local citizens. Delivering remarks on behalf of the Government and people of the Federation, Acting Prime Minister Hanley commended Taiwan's sustained commitment to human capacity building and educational development in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador to Saint Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Edward Tao, highlighted the central role of young people in shaping the future of diplomatic relations. "Youth are the pillars of our future bilateral alliance," Ambassador Tao stated, encouraging the visiting delegates to cherish their experience in the Federation, act as cultural envoys, and pursue future careers in diplomacy.
The Youth Ambassadors then delivered a breathtaking showcase combining traditional Taiwanese performing arts, traditional music instruments, group dance, and acrobatics, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Before departing on Wednesday, September 3, the delegation toured the recycling facility managed under the TaiwanICDF Solid Waste Management and Recycling Project, gaining direct insight into ongoing sustainability and technical cooperation initiatives within the Federation.
Organized by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Youth Ambassadors Exchange Program has served as a cornerstone of the country’s public diplomacy since 2009. The initiative empowers outstanding university students to serve as cultural envoys across the globe, enabling them to visit Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and engage directly with local youth.
