The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly protests and condemns the shooting attack on an ROC fishing boat by a Philippine government vessel
The Republic of China(Taiwan)strongly protests and condemns the shooting attack on ROC fishing boat Guang Da Xing No. 28(廣大興28號)by a Philippine government vessel in waters 164 nautical miles southeast of Eluanbi, which resulted in the death of one ROC crewmember, as well as serious damage to the boat. The ROC government demands that the Philippine government issue an official apology, arrest the perpetrators and offer just compensation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MOFA)of the Republic of China was informed about the incident by the Duty Command Center of the Coast Guard Administration in the afternoon of May 9, 2013. MOFA immediately asked the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines to contact relevant government agencies in the Philippines and request an investigation. At the same time, MOFA expressed its solemn concern and demanded that the Philippines capture the vessel in question and arrest the perpetrators responsible for the attack. Ambassador Raymond L. S. Wang, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, immediately conveyed our solemn position to the Philippine Coast Guard(PCG), the Department of Justice, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Department of National Defense and the headquarters of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office.
Ambassador Wang met with Rear Admiral Rodolfo D. Isorena, Commanding Officer of the PCG, at 7 p.m. on May 9. During this meeting, Ambassador Wang demanded an immediate investigation of the attack and urged the Philippine government to bring the perpetrators to justice. According to the response by the Philippine government, a government vessel was responsible for the attack. Subsequently, Ambassador Wang immediately lodged a strong protest with the Philippine government and expressed condemnation over the attack. He demanded that the Philippines issue an official apology, bring the perpetrators to justice and offer just compensation.(E)
