Taiwan’s top China policy-maker Wang Yu-chi is set to meet his Chinese counterpart Zhang Zhijun on the offshore island of Kinmen this weekend.
Wang is the minister of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), based in Taipei.
Zhang, who is the head of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, will lead a 30-member delegation to Kinmen on Saturday afternoon for a two-day trip.
An MAC official, Hu Ai-ling, said on Tuesday that Wang will lodge a strong protest against China’s unilateral declaration of four new flight routes passing near Taiwan during the meeting. She also spoke about other issues on the agenda.
"The issues we will discuss include Chinese tourist stopovers in Taiwan, the trade in goods agreement, a joint study of cross-strait participation in economic integration, as well as the establishment of offices on each other’s side," said Hu.
Other topics of discussion include tourism, maritime pollution, illegal Chinese fishing, the transfer of water from China to Kinmen, and China’s practice of dredging up and removing sand in Taiwanese waters.
